The Numbers Game

In 1844, Johann Martin Zacharias Dase calculated Pi to 200 decimal places, with the first zero appearing at the 32nd decimal place. Pi's first six digits (3.14159) added together equal 23. Six digits, 6=2x3, and it's 5 (2+3) numbers after the decimal place.

I became interested in the Numbers 23 and 32 while doing research for my last post, Room 101. By research, I of course mean that I like to watch movies on the off hand chance that they may contain an interesting synch. After viewing the movie Pi, and noting all the possible snychs, I went online and dug for more info on the two-hundred and sixteen digit number (the 216 number, not to be confused with the actual number "216"). I found a website which had already compiled some info on the numbers seen through out Pi, and this saved me a lot of time otherwise spent pausing the movie and jotting down numbers. The number lists which follow later are from that webpage.

It turns out that the number of digits in the computer glitch version of the 216 number is actually 218-digits long. (just for kicks: 2+1+6=9, 2+1+8=11. And, 2x16=32, 2x18=36, 32+36=68 (see below)) There are actually two sets of 218 digits, one found by Max, and one by his mentor Sol; found while doing research on patterns in Pi. There is an additional 216 number which really does have 216-digits in it, and is seen in the Lancet-Percy newspaper advertisment (the company which is hounding Max for his number). Above this random number sequence is the phrase "86% Accuracy, only God is perfect." They obviously want Max's 216 number, which they think is the perfect number/name of god. The number that they're using is apparently only 86% accurate when used to pick stocks.

8 = 2^3 and 0.6 = 2/3
The 6 and 8 come up a lot in synchromystic stargate phenomena.
6+8=14 and 1+4=5 (5=2+3)
6x8=48 and 4x8=32
6-8 suited is my favorite Texas Hold'em poker hand. I also won $68 bucks when I got my first royal flush on video poker, and when cashing out, the cashier said: "Lucky 68." (If anyone out there has any more 68 or 86 stuff - let me know!) Hey I'm watching the first X-Files movie right now, and in the scene where Mulder is at the bar, the bartender says: "It looks like 86 is your lucky number." (referring to his bar tab.) (Update: I've now done a post on the numbers 68-86.)

Moving on, the 216 number in Pi is supposed to be the true name of god. The idea of a 216-letter name of god is actually taken from real Jewish history and belief. The 216-letter name of god is actually derived from three verses in Exodus (verses 19,20, & 21), each being 72 letters long. (72x3=216) Each was written out as a string of letters: verse 19 on top, then 20 underneath and in reverse order, and then 21 under that. Read top to bottom and right to left, the 3 lines of 72 letters yielded 72 individual 3 letter names. This is not what they are looking for the in movie Pi, but at least we can see that the 216-digit plot device wasn't totally fictional. If all the letters are converted into numbers, the name would actually be much higher than 216 numerical digits long, as some numbers are 2 or 3 digits long (letters whose values are in the 10's and 100's).

Here is Max and Sol's "216-numbers" which are actually 218 digits long:

Highlighted in red is the only difference between the two sets of numbers, and is the obvious extra two digits which when removed would make the above sets into two identical sets of 216-digits. Incidentley, when you eliminate all the 2's and 3's, you are left with 162 digits from the 216. 16x2=32=2x16. There are a number of possible patterns or hidden stuff in this set of numbers. There's some sets of numbers that repeat and some that repeat backwards. The three middle lines begin with a 6 making a verticle 666 (6x6x6=216). We should follow the advice of Sol from Pi who warned Max from finding the 216 number everywhere he looked: "Once you throw out scientific rigor, you are no longer a mathmatician - you're a numerologist."

23 or 32 are the typical examples, but because 2+3=5, sometimes the number 5 is part of the connection. Here's a couple of "23" examples for the numerologist or the 23-enigma enthusiast in you:

On a normal modern QWERTY keyboard, the 23rd letter W is right below and between 2 and 3. 10111 is the binary equivalent to 23, note the five digits. On Microsoft Windows computers, a line break is stored as ASCII code 13, then ASCII code 10. (13+10=23) Supposedly, in telegraphy a line break is or was transmitted as a 23.
My favorite soda, Dr. Pepper, now proudly proclaims to have "23 authentic flavors." In The Matrix Reloaded: in the opening code sequence, the final, most prominent number is 23, reversed as if looking from inside a mirror. The film was also released 5/2003. In Conair: "Johnny 23" is a rapist with 23 red roses tattooed on his arm. In Star Wars: When Luke Skywalker is in the trench during his bombing run, the first number you see on the targeting computer is 23. The next scene that shows the computer shows the number 32. In Conspiracy Theory: the combination to the coffee jar is 4-23-12, the hospital bedroom Mel Gibson is held in is 322, the taxi cab Julia Roberts takes is numbered 3N23 (N=14=5), the CIA front office number 1203. Bond 23 is going to be the 23rd film of the franchise. In Wargames: It is said that it takes 23 minutes from launch to impact for a nuclear attack on the US, the phone number for the game company the kid is trying to hack is 555-8632 (3 5's, an 86 and a 32!).

September 11th, 2001. 9/11/2001 = 9+11+2+0+0+1 =23, or 9+1+1+2+1 =14 =5 (2+3)
Highest Scottish Rite Freemasonic degree is 32.
Skull & Bones 322, 3 holes (skull), 2 femurs and 2 knobs (bones)
= ((3 × 2 × 2) × (3 + 2 + 2)) = 84, 8x4=32

Of course if you try hard enough you can probably relate most things to 23, 32, or 5, or some power of each. In fact, with all the mathematical ways of combining numbers, there's probably very few things that arn't related to 23 or 5 in some way.

The parody religion of Discordianism holds that all things are related to the number 5 (2+3). 23 is considered to be sacred to their goddess Eris. The Principia Discordia quotes "The Law of Fives" in explaining this, as 2+3=5. 23+32=55

The Law of Fives states simply that: All things happen in fives, or are divisible by or are multiples of five, or are somehow directly or indirectly appropriate to 5
The Law of Fives is never wrong.
-Malaclypse the Younger, Principia Discordia, Page 00016
The number Five was also important in ancient Egypt. It was the number associated with the Divine Child, Horus. It is said that from one comes two, from two comes three and from three comes everything else. The most important ideas of many religions is a One (supreme creator), a duality (good v. evil), and a Trinity (father, mother and child).

The "3-4-5" Right Triangle is a well known Egyptian and Freemasonic symbol which incorporates this idea. The right triangle satisfies the Pythagorean Theorem of a^2+b^2=c^2 where the hypotenuse is "c". Therefore, 3-squared plus 4-squared (9+16) equals 5-squared (25). Plutarch, on Egyptian wisdom, in Moralia Vol V:
Three (Osiris) is the first perfect odd number: four is a square whose side is the even number two (Isis); but five (Horus) is in some ways like to it's father, and in some ways like to it's mother, being made up of three and two. And panta (all) is a derivative of pente (five), and they speak of counting as "numbering by fives"
The Pharoah of Egypt was given the titles Lord of the Two Lands and Lord of the Diadem (crown). The crown has vulture and serpent at the location of the third eye. The Serpent represents the intellectual ability to dissect something into it's parts and examine it, like how a snake breaks an animal down when it devours it whole. The Vulture represents the power of reconciliation, a bringing together of the parts. To paraphrase my Egyptian Cosmology book: The number five is written as two verticle lines above three verticle lines; thus, the number five is the result of the relationship between the principles of polarity (number 2) and reconciliation (number 3). The Egyptian idea of the King's power to divide is extended to Jesus in Matthew 10:34: "Do not think that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I have not come to bring peace, but a sword. For I have come to set a man against his father, and a daughter against her mother..." The power of division before reconcilliation, where followers are found worthy and come together with Jesus: Matt. 10:37-38: "Whoever loves father or mother more than me is not worthy of me ... And whoever does not take his cross and follow me is not worthy of me." Even the number 23 shows up in reference to how long a certain devastation would be allowed to happen:
Then I heard a holy one speaking: and another holy one said to the one that spoke, "For how long is the vision concerning the continual burnt offering, the transgression that makes desolate, and the giving over of the sanctuary and host to be trampled under foot?" And he said to him, "For two thousand and three hundred evenings and mornings; then the sanctuary shall be restored to its rightful state."
Daniel 8:13,14
In the Jim Carrey movie The Number 23, "Isaac" tells "Walter" about the 23 enigma and mentions that Revelations of the bible has only 22 chapters "and we all know how that ends." Well in the movie Prophecy, Revelations does have 23 chapters, and the last chapter is about a second war in heaven between the angels who remained after Lucifer fell. (In Constantine, 1-Corinthians has 5(2+3) extra chapters and is about a rebellion of Lucifer's son.) Anyways, 1/3 of the angels left with Lucifer, 2/3 remained with God. With 2/3 resonating "23," that leaves 1/3 resonating "13," another number which we are often on the lookout for. The first time the number 13 shows up in "history" or at least the Bible, is in Genesis 14:4, "Twelve years they had served Chedorlaomer, but in the thirteenth year they rebelled." Therefore, the number 13 is associated with revolution and rebellion; a fracture of society or of an order, such as when the Templar's power was subdued on Friday the 13th of October in the year 1307. (october=10th month + 13th day = 23) 13 is like an "octave" of 23. (Not really 8 (oct-) digits apart, but I can't think of a better word for it.) And one "octave" higher than 23 would be the honorary Scottish Rite Masonic degree, 33. 33 represents a third, or 1/3, of a full 100. (Remember 1/3 (and 13) is associated with rebellion and revolution). Many Freemasons were a driving force behind the French and American revolutions.

The 216 letter name, or rather the 72 3-letter names of god hinted at in Pi, is called "Schemhamphoras," or the Divided Name. Probably because it's divided among the three verses of Exodus, one of which describes Moses dividing the red sea. The twenty-third hexagram of the I-Ching is translated as Splitting Apart. In Aleister Crowley's Cabalistic Dictionary, he defines the number 23 as the number of "parting, removal, separation, joy, a thread, and life..." The second and third operations of Alchemy are Dissolution and Separation, respectively. Even some 23 synchs mesh with this concept. The line breaks in telegraphs transmitted as 23, or how in the recent Get Smart movie, it was Agent 23 who was the double agent (with Maxwell Smart as Agent 86). Agent 23 was played by Dwayne Johnson, who split into two in the movie Southland Tales. The whole movie of The Number 23 flipped back and forth between Jim Carey's two personalities, his semi-fictional past and the present; it was the influence of the number which drove him insane. So, it would seem that 13, 23, and 33 might all be related to rebellion, revolution, dissolution, sepereation or polarity in some ways; which should make followers of Discordianism happy.

Now excuse me while I clear my head.
